iMacs and MacBooks can fail because of hardware faults or human error, and different Apple models use different types of storage. Our engineers have the experience and the specialised hardware and software tools needed to recover lost data from Apple desktops and laptops, including all Mac file systems.
Recovering the files alone is often not enough: Apple devices keep photos and videos in organised libraries that depend on a complex database. Wherever possible, we restore not only the files but also the libraries themselves.
Macs come with the built-in backup solution Time Machine. We also recover data from damaged Time Machine backups and after failed restores.
Every case of data loss is different. We first determine the cause and then choose the best approach. Your data is handled confidentially throughout the whole process.
Data recovery process
Be vigilant and do not attempt to salvage the data on the device yourself. This can make recovery impossible.
We recover data from all types of storage – from deleted files to mechanically damaged hard drives. Mechanically defective drives are opened only at our class 100 clean room workbench in Berlin. You get personal advice and a clear price before any recovery work begins.
Data recovery from storage media from all manufacturers
All orders are processed exclusively in our Berlin laboratory. The data recovery from mechanically defective hard drives takes place within a dust-free environment of our clean room workbench of clean room class 100.
Frequently asked questions about Mac data recovery
In principle, yes. The chances depend on the damage: with a head crash on a hard drive or with an encrypted internal SSD on a damaged logic board, the chances are much lower.
Apple does not offer its own data recovery service. Some authorised service providers can repair a Mac without losing data if the storage itself is not damaged.
Often only partially, and on Macs with encrypted storage usually not at all. If a Time Machine backup exists, you can normally restore the data yourself. If that fails, professional recovery can help.
If you try software yourself, install it on a different drive – never on the affected one – and save recovered files to another drive. Ideally, create an image of the damaged drive first.
Often yes. If the electronics are damaged, they are repaired or the affected components are replaced. If the storage medium itself is damaged, recovery is more complex.
The diagnosis is free of charge. A standard recovery costs 357–535.50 euros, a special recovery (for example mechanical damage that needs spare parts) 476–897 euros plus any spare parts. If no data can be recovered, you pay nothing for the recovery. Details: Prices.
